The Final A&S logo from the early 1980's up to the 1995 closing. This was the store's most popular logo for Its Terrific!!! campaign

This site is dedicated to the Abraham and Straus (A&S)department store chain which was taken over by Macy's in 1995 after its parent company Federated dropped the Brooklyn based chain which has been around since the late 1800's, some turned into Macy's,Bloomingdale's and Stern's which is now defunct or sold to other stores (i.e Sears,Boscov's).

the future: Since A&S's demise in 1995, Macy's has almost eliminated every chain in the country,even in their Federated brand's such as Rich's,the bon marche,Jordan Marsh,Burdines...... In 2005 federated department stores merged with May department stores eliminating their brands such as Filiene's,Hecht's,Strawbridges............., but leaving the Lord and Taylor nameplate.Most malls throughout the country are using big box stores such as Target,WalMart and Kohls to have mega size stores to take over former Federated and May chains which have a Macy's in them. Macy's has Currently over 800 stores nationwide and a lot of stores in New Jersey especially some former Bamberger's in the older malls like Cherry Hill,Menlo Park,Eatontown and Paramus.........

A another former Abraham and Straus converted to Stern's at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa,NY which is now a mega size Wal-mart.

A newer Abraham and Straus store lasted only couple of years till Bloomingdale's took over this store at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City,NY

If you could look far its another mall entrance for an A&S store at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove,NY

This was a former A&S in Trumbull,Ct at the Westfield Trumbull Mall the only store in that state which was a former Jordan Marsh then turned into a Macy's which is now closed a new Macy's store was built at that shopping center.

this is the A&S shopping bag from the holiday season featuring Abearham the bear and Straus the mouse which were a set of plush dolls sold during the Christmas season I guess Macy's inspired this idea.

Did You Know ,A&S would have opened at fifth New Jersey location at the Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold during the 1990's it was a proposed Stern's before that but Macy's opened in its place in 1998.

Manhattan- A&S plaza/Manhattan Mall (converted to Stern's in 1995 and closed in 2001 no one has replaced the store there

Garden City-Roosevelt Field Mall(this store at least had the last logo on it besides the manhattan store closed in 1995 and reopened as Bloomingdale's
